Learn the essence of Kanban method practices and principles while developing skills in designing and improving systems of work using the STATIK
System Thinking Approach To Introduce Kanban (STATIK) is a simple yet compelling technique created by seasoned managers for all managers, team leads, agile coaches, and individual contributors.
STATIK gives you a set of guidelines and leading questions to better understand your systems of work. And, It empowers you to analyze the nature of your work qualitatively and quantitatively. It also helps you to make the right improvement decision continuously.
Kanban practitioners use STATIK daily. Therefore, We will spend a fair amount of time on STATIK in this course. We will practice on real problems and review relevant case studies. You can be 100% sure that you will be eligible to use STATIK with confidence after the class.
Unhide work to manage it better
In this course, you will learn how to make knowledge work visible and manageable. We will look into various Kanban method visualization design patterns, their benefits, and how to use them appropriately.
One crucial fact is that a kanban board is not the only way to visualize information. It is one of many ways.
After taking this course you'll be able to ...
Explain Kanban Agendas and the motivations behind the Kanban method,
Handle interruptions and multi competing works that go through the system. All that without having the negative effect of multitasking at individual, team and organizational level.
Decide when to NOT use Push System and Resource Utilisation and instead when to take advantage of Pull Systems and Flow Efficiency.
Strategically set Work-in-Process Limits (WIP Limit) at the right place to get the most benefits, such as getting to pull or increase throughput or reduce lead time.
Manage WIP Limits to achieve the desired outcome; whether it is to accelerate throughput or shortening lead time, causing more collaboration or increasing delivery predictability.
Design service level feedback loops to coordinate work better, make the right improvement decision, and meet customers' need more effectively.
Design necessary information radiators and visualization to capture work, its state, its risks as well as the health of the system.
Make faster and better decisions with the right visualization and metrics.
Manage incoming work effectively based on their risks, urgencies and priorities through techniques such as Class of Service and Work Type definition.
See the organization as a network of services, and recognize the elements that govern the performance of those services via deep dive into the System Thinking Approach in Implementing Kanban (STATIK) coaching technique.

Your course curriculum
Module 1: Understanding Kanban Method
At this module, we will dive deeper into Kanban method practices and set of principles, the motivation behind the Kanban method and its origin, why it exists, what problems it strives to resolve, and how it helps knowledge workers and business services deal with 21st-century challenges. We will do enough exercises, and we'll discuss the practicality of all the concepts to set the stage for the rest of the course.
Module 2: The core elements of a kanban system
Kanban method uses kanban systems to ensure work on an item starts only when there are customer demand and system capacity to handle that demand. Therefore it is essential to understand the elements of a kanban system within Kanban method body of knowledge and how each element plays a vital role in the symphony. Such as WIP limits, visualization indicators, knowledge discovery workflow, work items types and classes of services, etc.
To understand these topics, we will simulate different scenarios and will do less lecture.
Module 3: STATIK and its application
STATIK is one of those techniques that is easy to understand but hard to master. Yet, it is one of the core thinking processes of all good Kanban practitioners. The understanding and usage of STATIK to a Kanban practitioner and coach is what basic surgical skills are to a surgeon.
Module 4: Designing a kanban & pull system
Part of STATIK is enabling the pull system. We make sure we dedicate enough time to it during the course. Kanban method has a significant body of knowledge and guidance on creating a pull system at different organization levels, vertically between the hierarchies and horizontally between teams, business units, or divisions.
